Open Call: Pitch Reels
Agent Orange & Oxycontin (Sample Reel) (11:40)
Eric Escobar | Oakland, CA
My dad is slowly dying from his exposure to Agent Orange while serving his country in Vietnam. In January of 2001, his conditioned worsened, and we didn't know how long he had left to live. I asked him what was the one thing he wanted to do before he checked out. He said he 'had to see ground zero before they covered it over.' So we loaded him up on Oxycontin, flew from SFO to JFK, checked into a hotel and went looking for ground zero. I brought my camcorder.

I think it's sad when people
I think it's sad when people get addicted to drugs. Sometimes it's not their faults. Addiction to oxycontin can sometimes be caused by being injured in some sort of way. These pills are so addicting, that when you are done being hurt, you can withdrawal from prescription medications. The people in the war are constantly being injured, and that could be the reason why a lot of them getting addicted to pain killers. This is a very sad story.
I would love to see it
I would love to see it too!!! Such a sad story! It’s such a shame that the government doesn’t do anything about the veterans who suffer from different diseases after war. Most of the veterans end up addicted to oxycotin or meth. Most of them die, end up on streets or in a center. So sad! I’m so sorry for you’re dad. I feel ashamed for this ignorant country!

I’m very sorry to read about your father; at least he got his final wish. I imagine there was a certain reason for wanting to see ground zero before it was covered, somebody he knew and lost, I lost a cousin there too. It’s such a shame there isn’t any real drug treatment for Agent Orange.

I guess Oxycontin is sometimes recommendable. I usually keep this kind of drugs far from me I can't afford the risk of having an addiction.

One Weekend a Month played at Sundance, smartly evoking the tension that a normal single mom has when called up. Seems like if you make a pot of tea it will eventually come up on You Tube, but I'd like to see some footage from the proposed.
