A rare hub of race, class, and sometimes gender, pickup soccer is arguably one of the most diverse gatherings in Boston. Everyone is welcome, and often no score is kept. This short is the first in a series of video essays drawing from Ben Stump’s research on competition. Stump is interested in exploring the pros and cons of competition and alternatives to it.

Ben - this is a sensational film. It holds together beautifully, shows all kinds of angles on the topic, unfolds in artfully intriguing ways, and covers both depth and territory in a short space. Wow!
