Open Call: Rough Cuts
Media Circus (Previously Titled: Election Fatigue) (3:26)
Teralyn Wade - Jackson, MI
The Pitch:
I’m a 26 year old filmmaker in Jackson, MS. I am an African American working class woman from a middle class family. I am the exact target audience that both Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton pander to and yet I am at the point where if I never hear another word about this election, that will be just fine by me.
The 2008 Democratic primary is a groundbreaking and iconic moment in American history. Regardless of who wins, we will either have the first African American or female democratic nominee. The media in general has covered this race ad-nauseum. We’ve been bombarded with each candidate’s stances on issues, likes and dislikes and even what their second cousin once removed had for breakfast during the last election. Every caucus and state primary has been given the importance of a WWE title match, but has it become too much?
In one of the most monumental and historic moments in politics, has the media coverage and pandering from the candidates actually turned us off to the point of not caring?
The point I will be making with this video is that do to the overwhelming magnitude, punditry and inane issues being forced fed to us by the media, we as American voters are getting sick of this election already and it hasn’t even really started yet.
During my documentary, I will give examples of the media belying weight to issues of little importance, i.e. celebrity endorsement and religious leaders oversimplified political viewpoints; interviews with several voters from different religious backgrounds on how they feel about this election season and its coverage; and how the candidates have pandered themselves almost to the point of debasement (appearances on Monday Night Raw?) in order to get more votes.

Broll & Animation
Thanks for the feedback!
I completely get your point on the broll, I just didn't get a chance to get it shot before the rough cut was due. Also, my graphic artist is working on a cleaner open and some additional animation sequences. They will definitely be in the final cut.
Promise!
Great Idea!!

Great idea and great open. I would add a litle more dif. shots af animation in begining, clean up and pump up speaker one audio. Show some of media circus, they are telling a great story, but can you show some, cover them up with some b- roll of it and add some nat sound, maybe under airplane shot (that shot and transition really works). Liven it up a bit. Good music and rough cut.Nice job so far.
yes, i agree with "Dave3476"
yes, i agree with "Dave3476" -- stick to the theme; a compelling narrative. "GO FOR IT." i'm concerned about the lack of diverse footage -- do you have good verite footage? show off what you've shot, as well as your animation (up the overall production value).
i think you've got something here -- stick to it!
