Open Call: Pitch Reels

The Pitch:

“08 Race” is an adrenalin-soaked action sequence following the pack of presidential candidates through car chases, fight scenes, and stunts as they each ruthlessly attempt to claw their way into the White House.

While presenting a darkly stylized version of each candidate endlessly flicking cigarettes, drawing guns, and jeering rivals, this short aims to pattern itself after the events of the actual presidential campaign. Originally conceived of as a series, I have attached a segment shot for $80 that dramatizes only the events of the Iowa caucus. My presentation of the overall primary, however, would be driven by the exit of each losing primary candidate as they each face their demise at the hands of their rivals.

“08” Race hopes to offer a not-so-subtle criticism of the gotcha politicking and mud-slinging that have driven this race away from the issues and towards alternating character assassinations: think the Reverend Write scandal or the uproar over Clinton’s Bosnia comments. Here, “08” Race aims to do its part to free the actual presidential campaign to return itself to a well articulated discussion of the issues, allowing itself to satisfy what Americans all too often truly want from their electoral process: a good fight.
