Open Call: Pitch Reels
If Artists Ran For President (2:06)
Janet Nearhood - Scottsdale, AZ
The Pitch:
Believe it or not next to NYC, Phoenix, Arizona has the greatest number of art galleries in the country. Some of the artists whose work fills the walls of these galleries express strong political opinions. I would like to interview a few of these "political artists" to ultimately find out what their platform would be if they were running for President. Professional artists have a reputation of being left of mainstream America, I would like to find out if this generalization is true. I think this piece would be visually interesting because not only would we be able to shoot and interview the artist's in their studio's we might also be able to capture a piece or two being created. In keeping with the POV style this project would be shot off the shoulder with the a small two person crew.

very original concept
I really like this idea. It's an original concept and a story with great visual potential. And it's intellectually stimulating - it really would be interesting to know what kind of platform and campaign Jackson Pollack or Jasper Johns would run. And certainly it's not well-known what artists are coming out of Phoenix, so this would be an educational piece on several levels. Good luck!
