Open Call: Pitch Reels
Election Path (1:46)
Jesse Selwyn - Los Angeles, CA
The Pitch:
On election day, Joe, a normal guy walks through a sunny neighborhood lined with houses and trimmed lawns towards a school to cast his vote. On the way, he sees vivid visuals of the effects of different candidates/parties. Suddenly, there's an explosion behind him as he notices a U.S. army battalion running down the street with machine guns and grenades, sheltering an Iraqi family. Joe keeps walking. He passes a ragged homeless man who's showing an ambulance driver his healthcare card. He passes a young pregnant girl who's crying in front of a judge as he tells her "your child MUST be born." Joe is quickly becoming scared and confused at all this -- he sees other visuals on his journey as he stumbles down the street, now aghast: a rich family lounging on a couch as a man with a "Taxman" sash showers them with cash, a house is having solar panels installed on the roof as the run-down house next door emits factory/industrial black smoke and fumes. Next, a group of young kids looking homeless sit on the street with cardboard signs reading, "Social Security Donations: Anything Helps." Finally, Joe makes it inside an elementary school auditorium where the voting booths are set up. Outside the window he notices a group of young schoolchildren eating lunch. He grabs his ballot and approaches them. "Has anyone told you what's going on out there?" The kids sip juiceboxes quietly. "Well can you help me decide? This is a vote about the future. It should be your vote after all..."
*This short would have a fresh visual style that provides effective commentary on some major political issues. It will also stress the fact that we concern ourselves with debating heavily over these major issues but fail to realize who will ultimately be affected the most - our children.
Note about the Video: This video demonstrates my production value, shooting style, and sense of story form. Though it is not politically themed and the content does not speak directly to my WGBH Lab Pitch, this spot simply provides a sense of the type of productions I put together.
Note: video is included to demonstrate production style and may not represent the content of the pitch.
