The Pitch:
My mother likes to tell the story of the first time she used a mechanical voting machine. It was the 1960’s and her young family had just moved to Philadelphia. She approached an election official for help using the machine. The official was the local State Senator, Thomas P. McCreesh. They walked into the booth, he pulled the curtain behind them and said, “all you do is this”. After she had clicked off a few names, he chose his own name from the ballot list and pulled the lever entering all of the votes. In demonstrating how to use the machine, the Senator had actually entered her vote -- For Himself. My mother did not realize what had happened until she returned home. She was outraged. That was the beginning of her now fifty year career in Philadelphia politics. Ten years later, she defeated Senator McCreesh in an election for Philadelphia Democratic Committee Person. Using animation, archival super eight footage, my mother’s political campaign spots and recorded testimony, LEVER tells the story of one woman’s call to a life of political action in response to voter fraud witnessed first hand.

Creative idea, good story with an ironic twist. Animation is labor-intensive, but can be so effective.

Like the idea of using animation to illustrate the narration, if I do say so myself. Good story too.

Your Mom sounds awesome -- this sounds like it would make great story -- something different and uplifting.

Great story
Intersting story about a wily politician who unwittingly gives rise to a future opponent. Irony.
Funny how voting machines were abused in 1960. Funny how voting machines malfunctioned in Florida in 2000. Hmm.

wonder how many votes that guy got that way... maybe enough to tip in a close election... great idea jon...
