Running for President is a daunting task. Now try running for President with no money, limited media access, constant struggles to get on each state ballot and the accusations of being a "spoiler". As the mainstream media tracks the 2008 election, the Green Party is quietly going through the process of nominating their own candidate who can promote the party's platform and inspire voters. Of the four candidates vying for this spot, one of the most intriguing is Kat Swift of San Antonio, Texas.
At 35, Kat is the youngest candidate running for President. Whether she's dressing up as Wonder Woman to get petitions signed or debating the other Green Party candidates, Kat's unique style, dreadlocks and alternative approach to politics resonate with young and progressive voters. A Green Party activist since the early 1990s, Swift served as the Co-Chair of the Texas Greens and ran a strong campaign for San Antonio's City Council in 2006. Although Kat's campaign was outspent 10 to 1 by her high-profile opponent, she garnered 30% of the vote. When Kat says you’ve got to be tough to be a Green in Texas, she’s serious.
Our short, “Seriously Green, Kat Swift, Presidential Candidate” provides an intimate, inspiring portrait of Kat, on and off the political stage. We follow Kat as she alternates working on her campaign with her 9 to 5 job as a bookkeeper for an agency that provides services to the homeless. Kat is running for President not to promote herself, but promote her political party and her ideals. This is a story that we aren't seeing on television --Hillary isn't the only strong woman running for President in 2008.

Thanks to the filmmakers, Julie and Babette, for telling the story the mainstream press has largely ignored. Minor parties such as the Greens enliven and widen our political landscape.

Kat gets her point across whether in costume or not. Sure helps to have a sense of humor with the rough and tumble of Texas politics.

We have all heard as children that anybody can grow up to be president.
It seems to me that one of Kat Swift's most important messages (other than the issues about ballot access, etc.) is to shatter that pious myth.

Go Kat!! Help wake this mind bent nation to the reality that we do not live in a democracy, of any kind, and that a democracy is the only way for us to get enough intelligence to deal with the future fast approaching. The problems cannot be solved by the mindset that created them.

If Kat does nothing else, educating people on the need and importance, as well as the present lack, of ballot access will, hopefully, lead to a greater level of true democracy.

We need Ballot Access across the States and we need IRV. With those two things and integrity of our votes with paper ballots or paper receipts we can change this country for the better.
