Open Call: Pitch Reels

Erase and Replace Pitch:

I plan to bring home the feeling of people being expelled from their homes by tearing up and rebuilding history itself. Old photographs are solid pieces of our past. We understand them, we know them, they mean something to us. In my film I will modify and mangle them the way people sometimes modify and mangle the world they live in. Cut a black family out of the front yard of their home and replace them with a white family. Tear black children away from school and leave their empty desks behind.

The words and imagined thoughts of people on both sides of the expulsion will accompany the photos. This will be an effective piece. It is disturbing and thought-provoking to see touched up photos from the Soviet Union, where the party was not just removing people from the world of the living but from all of history as well. This film will use a version of their techniques to look at our own history. It is called "Erase and Replace."
